CHAPTER 18

– AnD –

 

Amethyst Saga University, Cafetaria

Friday, October 17^th, 2025

“Baek Jiheon, Cho Gahyeon, Kim Sohee, Shin Yuna, Kim Doah, and An Yujin. They are called AnD Squad, Angel and Devil. Shin Yuna, Kim Doah, and An Yujin are the Devils and the other three are the Angels.”

“Who divided them like that?” Wonyoung frowned at the name, her hand was moving to take the dimsum on Dohyoun’s plate while her cousin just laughed at her.

“Us, the ASU -Amethyst Saga University- Community.” Dohyon grinned. “Baek Jiheon, Cho Gahyeon, and Kim Sohee are model students on this college. They have good reputation as part of the college council and are popular in their department. In contrast, Shin Yuna, Kim Doah, and An Yujin, despite having the same popularity and are cool too, they are blacklisted and not really having the best reputation among the lecturers. The interesting part is, all of them are best friends since high school.”

Wonyoung frowned deeper. Yujin doesn’t really look like someone who would make a trouble. “Why are they blacklisted?”

“They made a mess on the first day entered as a freshman. I heard from Junho Hyung, the three of them came to college using hoverboard and skateboard without safety equipment and made the college as their track to play.” Dohyon laughed as he remembered the video that the senior showed him once. “The seniors punished them by making them to perform at the celebration of the ending orientation period for new students. They thought the Devils would make a mess and embarrass themselves. But they executed it very well and instead made the Devils even more popular. As you knew, they will play important roles on the annual festival.”

Dohyon showed a video on his tablet to Wonyoung.

“Although the Devils is not a real celebrity who appears on television, but they were quite impressive. Shin Yuna is part of the Dance Department and she’s friendly. If she is on campus, you will find her more often in this cafetaria or college council than in her department. She often participates in International events and gets many awards abroad. Kim Doah is part of the Music Department, same with me. She’s my direct senior. Many say that Doah Noona is a fusion of traits from Shin Yuna and An Yujin. She is not clumsy and talkative like Yuna Noona but not as cold and serious as Yujin Noona. Since her first year, she has collaborated with many musicians and producers. As for An Yujin, well, who doesn’t know the fastest account to get ten million subscribers in this country? Nobody in Amethyst doesn’t know her. The video on her channel always gets viral. She’s a singer, dancer, arranger, producer, movie maker, vlogger, ouch, she can do anything. She’s awesome!!” Dohyon looked enthusiastic. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Such a fanboy, aren’t you?” Wonyoung made a face and sighed. Dohyon has been telling her many things about Amethyst for the past hour, and of course, about Yujin. But seeing how excited he was talking about the certain senior made Wonyoung feel a little uncomfortable.

“Does the Devils always participate on the annual festivals?”

Dohyon shook his head.

“Only the Angels actively participates in activities at Amethyst while others are very busy off college. The Devils just joined the festival this year, and it also because Jiheon Noona is the President of the College Council. I heard she forced the Devils to contribute.” Dohyon chewed his food slowly, seemed thinking. “Right, so I guess I was too rush to conclude that you are dating Yujin Noona. I forgot the legendary heroic incident of Yujin Noona saved Jiheon Noona. There is no way anything can top that.”

“I told you we are not dating, Stupid,” said Wonyoung, but she frowned again at Dohyon’s words. “What incident? What happened to them?” she asked curiously.

“They were involved in a drugs scandal when doing their project assignment and it almost killed Yujin Noona. Yujin Noona received a threat that Jiheon Noona was kidnapped she went to kidnappers to save her and got stabbed while fighting the kidnappers. She had to go under surgery and intensive treatment at the ICU for days.”

“Really?” Wonyoung looks surprised. “Then what happened after that?”

“Well, the cops arrested all the bad guys and as you can see, Yujin Noona and Jiheon Noona were fine,” Dohyon took another bite of his food. “There are rumors that they are dating, but seeing Yujin Noona treated everyone including Jiheon Noona just the same, I think It’s just rumor.”

Wonyoung gave a stare to Dohyon. “Do you realized that you sound like a stalker?”

Dohyon rolled eyes. “I’m just saying! Two years ago, Yujin Noona and Yuna Noona spent summer holidays in Paris and she also spent the end of the year in Sydney with Doah Noona. Last year, AnD Squad vacationed together around exotic places on Java Island. I heard this year she had a vacation with Jiheon Noona, Gahyeon Noona, and Doah Noona in Phuket and Bagan.”

“Are you sure you’re not a stalker?”

“Yah! No need to stalk her, everything is on her YouTube channel. I told you Yujin Noona is a vlogger, she uploaded all her vacation video there.” Dohyon rolled eyes. “You know, if you saw her at ASU, she looked quite mysterious, but she’s different on her vlog. She’s very cool, charming, and seemed warm. That’s why, although she belongs to the Devils and considered as a troublemaker by lecturers, there are many people who want to date her.”

“Even without the videos you’ve been talking about, I think she’ll still be popular on college. She’s beautiful, smart, attractive and witty. Yeah, a bit childish but who doesn’t want to be her lover?” Unconsciously, Wonyoung gave her compliments to Yujin.

“Ah! Talking about her YouTube channel reminds me that for almost two months she doesn’t released anything. The last time she released the video was on September 1, on her birthday. Usually she will release new videos on the 5^th and 17^th of every month, and specifically in August and September, each year, she will release four videos in a row starting from the 29^th to the 1^st. What happened to her?” Dohyon looked at Wonyoung as if asking for an answer.

“Don’t ask me that. I’m not her Mommy, Dawson Nam. I don’t know anything about her.” Wonyoung rolled her eyes. She took a sip of the ice tea and wiped her lips with a tissue, not interested in the new video that Dohyon is talking about. “Now it’s the 17^th and since this morning she doesn’t look busy. So stop hoping she will release a new video.”

Dohyon sighed. “Hopefully she keep making content on her YouTube channel. She’s truly performer. I enjoyed all the videos.”

Wonyoung just shrugged and paid attention to the seniors entering the cafetaria. Yuna and Doah are among them but Yujin is nowhere to be seen. Seeing the presence of both of them that attracted the attention of students in the cafetaria made Wonyoung intrigued to ask one thing to Dohyon.

“Is Yujin Unnie currently dating anyone?” Wonyoung asked in a tone that she hoped sound casual. Not because she’s interested or anything, but Yujin is one of her Pillars, so she has the right to know, right? Someone as amazing as Yujin must be having someone special by her side, and that someone know has to understand Yujin’s fate as a Gifted and a Pillar. So, Wonyoung needs to know.

Dohyon shrugged. “According to Lunatic–” He stopped at the confused expression on Wonyoung’s face. “Her website and YouTube channel’s name are Once in The Blue Moon, Moon or Luna in other language, so her fans called themselves as Lunatic. Simply, their love for An Yujin has made them being lunatic.”

“She’s not even a celebrity.” Wonyoung scoffed and Dohyon grinned in agreement with her. “What did they say?”

“Well, this is just talk between her fans that I heard, but they said that Yujin Noona often gives a clue in her videos that as if she already had someone, but no one really knows who it was.” Dohyon typed something on his tablet and showed it to Wonyoung. “There are some videos where she recorded it with someone but only shadows and voices showed. The latest rumors said that she just broke up with her lover. She was supposed to return to Seoul with Jiheon Noona, Gahyeon Noona, and Doah Noona around mid-July, but she disappeared and went on her own vacation until late-August. When she returned, she put out a lot of videos and in her last video she seemed to dedicate the video to someone who had left her. I rarely feel touched when watching someone’s video, but when I watched her talking with a big smile, I can see her eyes looked sad.”

“She must feel hurt. That’s so sad.” Wonyoung’s face turned gloomy at Dohyon’s explanation. She felt sorry for her Pillar. “I’ve never watched her videos.”

“Of course, Stupid, you just know her,” Dohyon laughed. “Warning, you can fall for her when you watch the videos, Wonyoung-ah. She is so lovely and attractive. Whoever date her was so lucky, such a pity that no one knows who it was. Someone like Yujin Noona must be has a high standard about her type, because she is also surrounded with many amazing people.”

Wonyoung nodded in agreement. “Yeah, she and the AnD Squads are amazing. Anyone who could date them must be amazing too.”

“The high standard that I was talking is Sapphire Troika,” Dohyoun laughed again at Wonyong’s -again- confused face. “The Sapphire Troika was interested with her idea and together they worked to release a Sapphire Crown, you know, that popular game. I think they have a close relationship. Rumors are also saying that she is quite close with Actress Kim Minjoo and Singer Jo Yuri, our notable alumnus. Jo Yuri is dating Candy Choi and I heard that Kim Minjoo is dating either Clara Kim or Hellena Kang, the Sapphire Troika. So if Yujin Noona is close to Sapphire Troika, I think she often meet with Kim Minjoo and Jo Yuri.” Dohyon made his analysis.

Wonyoung blinked at the long explanation before letting out a chuckle.

“You don’t need to think that far, you know. Minjoo Unnie is Yujin Unnie’s cousin, of course they are close.”

Wonyoung’s answer made Dohyon choke. Wonyoung shook her head at her cousin’s reaction and offered him a glass of water.

“Wait, Minjoo Unnie?” Dohyon asked doubtfully.

“Yeah, they are cousins, like us. Yujin Unnie’s Dad is the older brother of Minjoo Unnie’s Mom.” Wonyoung answered casually.

“I mean, you call Kim Minjoo… Miss Carissa Angela Kim as Unnie? Do you know her?”

For a moment Wonyoung was stunned to hear Dohyon’s question. She slowly nodded her head.

“Even a week ago I stayed at her apartment.”

“Oh my God, Jang Wonyoung! What exactly did you do while you were away from me?!”

Amethyst Saga University, College Council

Friday, October 17^th, 2025

“There are so many photos of her that she looks pretty in, and she looks so pretty in real life too.” Doah pointed to the laptop. She was looking at the photos taken at their meeting days ago.

Sohee leaned toward Doah and chuckled excitedly at the photo. “She is so tall and stunning even from far away.”

“True,” Doah nodded in agreement. “She is tall, but she looks like a puppy when she runs. So cute.”

“Did you see when she looked at us and said ‘unnie~’ with her voice? I swear I was melting. She is so gorgeous and cute at the same time, and even more beautiful when she was in serious mode.” Yuna smiled widely, still looking at the photos. “She’s obviously my favorite junior in this year.”

“Whenever she acted cute, I feel my heart went crazy,” Jiheon laughed at her own words. “Such a cutie pie.”

“She’s really pretty.” Gahyeon joined their talks from her seat, sighing and shaking her head. “Seriously, so pretty. How can she be that pretty? I really hate girls who are pretty.”

“So, do you hate us?” Yuna asked with a mischievous grin. “We’re literally ulzzang!!”

“Yah! Why are you so full of yourself?!” Gahyeon groaned and made Yuna laugh. “I hate her! I hate the fact she’s so pretty!” Gahyeon stood up from her chair and walked over to Yujin who had been busy with her laptop. “The fact that she’s pretty makes me angry… And I feel even angrier because this beautiful girl got out from An Yujin’s car this morning!! It’s not fair!! She’s way too pretty and perfect for you, An Yujin!!”

“What?! Why me?” Yujin looked up from her laptop, confused at the mention of her name. She found the pairs of eyes were staring at her. “What are you talking about?”

“A beautiful girl who became a trending topic among students shortly after her transferred to Amethyst.” Yuna stood next to Yujin with her arms crossed.

“Who?” Yujin frowned.

“Jang Wonyoung, who else?” Doah flipped her laptop and showed Yujin a photo of Wonyoung.

“Oh,” Yujin responded shortly. “Yeah, she’s pretty,” she said before back to her laptop.

Yuna frowned at Yujin, not satisfied with her friend’s reaction. She turned to Doah and saw her naughty smile, and Yuna nodded, grinned as she knew what Doah wants to do. Yuna returned to her chair as she watched Doah walking towards Yujin.

“Yujin-ah…” Doah sat on the edge table, ignoring Jiheon’s warning glare at her.

“Hmm?” Yujin muttered with her fingers moving fast on the keyboard as she worked on compiling her videos.

“Evangeline Vanessa Kim or Elizabeth Victoria Jang?”

“Elizabeth Victoria Jang,” Yujin answered without thinking.

“GOTCHA!!”

Yujin jumped when a loud voice and laughing triumph filled the room.

“W-what?! What happened?” Yujin stuttered.

“You’re unbelievable, An Yujin!!” Doah laughed amusedly seeing Yujin’s reaction. They knew Yujin had been busy with the deadline to release her new video and she wasn’t paying attention around her. Seeing her chose Wonyoung over Evangeline Kim, the girl that Yujin always so obsessed with and willing to skip classes for the sake of attending the events from the international top model, was surprising yet satisfying at the same time.

“Yah, how do you find out Wonyoung’s English name? She didn’t write it on her portfolio, Yujin-ah,” Doah grinned at her best friend. She leaned over and brought her face closer to Yujin. “So you are close with her? How–”

“It doesn’t matter how I found out.” Yujin leaned in and snorted to realize what her friends wanted. They’re always like this every time they hear a new rumor about her.

“So, it’s true you’re in the process of approaching her, hmm?” Yuna raised her eyebrows with a mischievous smile.

“Yah Shin Yuna, stop picking on my life. Mind your own business,” Yujin groaned in annoyance.

“Hey, I’m not bothering you.” Yuna waved her hand. “I’m just curious about the gossip I’ve heard all day.”

Yuna’s grin was so wide it annoyed Yujin that she had to throw a pen at her. It went right to her forehead.

“Yah! What the hell! You’re fuc-”

“Shin Yuna, language!”

Yujin laughed at Yuna who whined at Jiheon who just scolded her. Her hand rubbed her forehead, the spot where Yujin’s pen hit her.

“What rumors did you hear today hmm?” Yujin shook her head and reached for her bottle of water.

“An Yujin is dating Jang Wonyoung.”

Yujin frowned hearing that. “And then?”

“Is it true?” Yuna sat on Yujin’s lap and wrapped her arms around Yujin’s neck. “Our Yujinie has a lover?”

Yujin seemed unbothered by Yuna’s antics, instead, she wrapped her arms around Yuna’s waist and pulled her closer. “Hey, what–” Yujin sighed.

“Do you guys think that way?” Yujin looked at her friends.

They nodded and Yujin only laughed and smiled meaningfully.

“Yah! An Yujin! Don’t smile like that, Stupid! Is Jang Wonyoung your girlfriend? Answer our question!!” Yuna deliberately ruffled Yujin’s hair and made Yujin push Yuna from her lap.

Yuna groaned in annoyance. “Watch out! I will ask Wonyoung about this.” Yuna snickered and reached for her bag. She ran out while laughing so hard.

“Yah! Shin Yuna! Stop it, you stupid!” Yujin ran after Yuna, leaving her laptop and video that still in progress.

Jiheon, Sohee, Gahyeon, and Doah could only shake their heads at the duo behavior. They already used to Yujin and Yuna’s childish acts.

Yujin walked in the office after the secretary told Chaewon about her arrival. She sighed as she passed the office door and caught Chaewon’s attention who was fiddling her phone on the sofa. The older girl smiled as their eyes met and tapped the place beside her, silently asking Yujin to sit. Yujin put her backpack on the single sofa and sit next to Chaewon. She sneaked her arms around the older’s waist and buried her face on Chaewon’s shoulder.

“Do you have a radio broadcast schedule today?” Chaewon can hear how Yujin’s take a deep breath before kissing the younger girl’s head. She looks tired and makes Chaewon feel sorry for her.

“Mmmm..” Yujin answered without lifting her head from Chaewon’s shoulder. “Let me hold you a little longer before going out to the studio.”

“Is everything alright?”

“I hope so.” Yujin mumbled.

Chaewon’s hands moved to patted Yujin’s head and massaged her gently. Yujin did not budge and tightened her arms around Chaewon’s waist.

“Unnie, you are so tiny and fits in my arms.” Yujin spoke in a low voice but Chaewon could hear it clearly. “You are warm and smell nice. No wonder Minjoo Unnie really likes to cuddle you. Hugging you like this really makes me comfortable and sleepy. Can I sleepover and sleep beside you?”

“Kim Minjoo will ban you come to our apartment if she hears you talking like that about me. Did you forget what she did when you asked me to stay at your apartment for a night?”

“Ahhhh Kim Minjoo..” Yujin groaned. She straightened her body with a pout. “She is so jealous and possesive type, even to her own cousin. I’m not going to snatch you from her. I have my dignity!”

“You have to find your Tier so Minjoo will stop being a jealous girlfriend.” Chaewon smiled when she saw Yujin’s pouting face.

“I want a healer as my Tier.” Yujin answered clearly without thinking, and realized the frown on Chaewon’s forehead made Yujin hurriedly continue her words, “the last time I remembered, to be bonded to a healer is a good choice for a warrior. Like you and Minjoo Unnie, a compatible pairing.”

“Don’t let Yena Unnie hear you talking about Tier like that. She’ll beat you to death.” Chaewon shook her head at Yujin’s reason.

“I do not blame or against their relationship. I’m glad to see Yena Unnie and Yuri Unnie happy with each other. But, I have my preferences, Unnie. There was a huge differences when I hugged a warrior and a healer. I’m in peace when I hugged you, like you give me strength and calm me down.” Once again, Yujin hugged Chaewon and leaned her head on Chaewon’s shoulder. “Should I snatch Lee Kaeun from Miyawaki Sakura and make her as my Tier?”

“WHAT?! ARE YOU CRAZY?!”

Yujin jumped at Chaewon’s voice.

“Unnie! You surprised me!”

“You’re the one who made me heart attack! Are you aware of what you just said?! Are you drunk?!”

Yujin scratched her non-itchy cheeks and smiled awkwardly. “She is a pure-blood healer and also one of the leaders of the Delta Team. The Elder’s favorite. Making her as my Tier will be benefit us, Omega Team.”

“Ugh! Your mind! It’s too much for talking about your dignity.” Chaewon snorted and took a deep breath. “Who taught you to be cunning like that huh, Sneaky Brat?!”

“I learned from the Delta Team.” Yujin smiled proudly and a second later she groaned when Chaewon’s hand hit her.

“You can choose a healer from Omega, why did you choose the Delta? In our team, there’s still Chowon and-” Chaewon’s words stopped when she realized that besides her, only Chowon and Wonyoung in the Omega Team were Healers.

“-you?” Yujin shook her head in amusement. “If asking you to hug me until I fall asleep can make Kim Minjoo give me a silent treatment for a week, do you think I dare to ask you to be my Tier? Kim Minjoo will kill me!”

Chaewon shook her head while seeing Yujin trying to get rid of one other name that she supposed to know. In the past, Yujin always looked proud whenever Wonyoung managed to find a new potion or a fast healing method. But now, Yujin doesn’t look comfortable talking about the youngest Healer in Omega and Chaewon understands that.

“Unnie, is my Goddess Evangeline Kim still in this building?” Yujin bit her lips with a mischievous glint in her eyes that Chaewon has memorized. The younger girl wants something from her. “Can I meet her?”

Chaewon’s eyebrow raised at Yujin’s request. “Were you serious when you said you were her fan?”

Yujin sighed and pulled out her phone.

“I’m following all her SNS accounts. Occasionally, I attended her events. Even though I don’t always do it, I will be her fansite and took a lot of photos of her when she is in Seoul or somewhere else, depends on my mood.” Yujin showed a folder in her phone containing the pictures of Evangeline Vanessa Kim, Chaewon’s older cousin. “In fact, I joined her fanclub. I had an exclusive interview with her. I wasn’t kidding when I said I was and still her fan.”

“Why you never tell me?”

“Because it never crossed my mind. I don’t know she’s your cousin and all I know is that you’re not interested in entertainment industry unless that’s Kim Minjoo and Jo Yuri. If only I knew it sooner.” Yujin grinned widely. “Where is she, Unnie?”

“At the airport, maybe. She was gone shortly after our monthly meeting ended.”

“Hmm.. It turns out the rumor that I heard in our fandom is true. She’s not being part of Supernova because she doesn’t like being an architect.”

“Yah! That’s not true! Doyeon Unnie always helps me. She just doesn’t like being in this building.” Chaewon defends her cousin. “She left early because she was going to Tokyo to accompany her girlfriend.”

“Danielle Choi?”

“Do you know her girlfriend?” Chaewon looks surprised.

“I even know they’ve been dating since they were in high school in California.” Yujin patted her chest with a proud smile.

“You’re so creepy, An Yujin.” Chaewon shook her head. She leaned her back against the sofa remembering her conversation with Doyeon. “There’s will be the death anniversary of Yoojung Unnie’s best friend. They will therefore visit the columbarium to pray. I feel bad for Yoojung Unnie. I know what it’s like to-”

“Unnie, wait!” Chaewon turned to look at Yujin who looked thoughtful. Before long the younger girl sighed.

During knowing Chaewon, Yujin never heard Chaewon talking about Doyeon and vice versa. Seeing how Chaewon talked about Doyeon, it looks like their relationship as cousins isn’t as close as her and Minjoo.

“Ummm, I don’t know how to explain this to you.” Yujin looks cautious, “I feel bad for Evangeline Kim. Looks like she still can’t move on from the accident that happened to Danielle Kim in October a few years ago.”

“Who is Danielle Kim? Her girfriend’s name is Danielle Choi.” Chaewon asked confused.

Yujin nodded. “Danielle Choi is her girlfriend and Danielle Kim or Kim Dani is her best friend. They have been friends since they lived in California. They even made their debut as a model on the same day, but as long as I know Kim Dani returned to Seoul and Evangeline Kim moved to Paris a year before graduate from high school.”

“What happened to Danielle Kim?”

“Car accident.” Yujin’s lips formed a straight line shortly after saying that. “The accident happened in Tokyo around seven years ago. At that time, Kim Dani visited your cousin who was doing a fashion show in Tokyo. After the event, all I knew was they were hanging out together and while on their way back to the hotel a truck crashed into their car. The driver died on the spot, the manager and Evangeline Kim survived without serious injuries, but Kim Dani died on the way to the hospital.”

Yujin took a deep breath before continuing the story.

“Some of the fansites who followed her in Tokyo had photos of the incident that were not published by the media. Evangeline Kim was in the ambulance that took Kim Dani to the hospital. She was there and watched how her best friend left. I can understand if she still can’t forget that incident. I know how it feels.” Yujin tried to smile but could not hide the sadness in her eyes.

“Insider said Evangeline Kim never mentioned Kim Dani’s name again after the accident. She deleted all of her best friend’s photos on her SNS. But you can still find their photos if you search for them. This is their last pictures before that accident.” Yujin showed some photos of Doyeon and Dani.

Chaewon took a deep breath. She never thought her cousin had such a dark past. The accident happened while Chaewon was in Gallia. At that time, they were rarely communicating and Chaewon was busy with their mission. Their closesness comeback when Chaewon continued her studies at the same university as Doyeon in Paris three years ago.

Chaewon gently traced Yujin’s hair, staring at her gratefully. “We- me and unnie have never had a deep and serious conversation. I know nothing about her. Thank you for telling me this. I feel bad for her. I’m a worst cousin.”

Yujin shook her head.

“That’s not your fault, Unnie. You’re not in the position to be able to share everything about your life with her. Besides, I guess she knows you’re not interested in the entertainment industry, so she didn’t tell you anything about her best friend. I bet you didn’t tell her anything about us.”

Yujin grinned when Chaewon nodded.

“In addition, it is not easy to tell such dark past, Unnie. After all, you’ve experienced something similar. It’s all about time. You just don’t have the right time and situation to be in a deep talk with her.” Yujin took Chaewon’s hand and put it on her lap. “Don’t compare your relationship with your cousin to me and Kim Minjoo. I even know when and with whom the first time she made lov-”

“Yah! An Yujin!!”

Yujin laughed loudly when Chaewon showered her with punches. For a moment she let the older girl beat her before grabbing Chaewon arms and hugged her tightly. She smiled as Chaewon’s body sank into her arms. This tiny Unnie..

“Is everything going well between you and Wonyoung?” Chaewon asked softly before hugging Yujin back.

Yujin shook her head but did not let go of her arms.

“I made her cry this morning. She said that’s her fault why she cried, not me, but it broke my heart when I heard her sobs. It hurts me to saw her eyes full of tears. It’s tiring and painful for me, but I’ll stay by her side. I will not give up for her.” Yujin sighed, her voice trembled. “Thank you for always by my side when I need you, Unnie. I know I’m not strong enough to face Wonnie, but at least I know, she is fine, alive and healthy. I promise I’ll make her happy and that’s enough for me.”

If you noticed, the conversation between AnD Squad was the compliments that Wonyoung received from other trainees during the visual ranking selection on Produce 48. Among trainees, coincidentally Doah and Gahyeon gave quite a lot of impressive and witty comments for Wonyoung’s visual.
